Reminders

  • All beaches in the Virgin Islands are open to the public.
  • Public nudity and shell collecting are illegal on the Virgin Islands’ beaches.
  • Resort amenities (chairs, umbrellas, towels, pools, water sports gear, etc.) are reserved for hotel guests. However, some resorts rent chairs and water sports equipment to non-hotel guests. Call hotels for their policies.
  • Please be mindful and respectful of the private property beyond the many beaches’ tree lines.
  • To avoid serious sunburns be sure to use plenty of sun block when on any of the Virgin Islands’ beaches. The sun is most intense between 11am-2pm.

With miles of beaches stretching along the shores of St. Croix, we’ll help you find several that are just what you are looking for. So enjoy the search for the perfect place to sink your toes and suck up the warmth of the sun.

Protestant Cay

Protestant Cay Beach is a quaint little beach with calm water, pebbly sand, and plenty of sunshine. The snorkeling is fair, but the views are stunning. You can see Christianted Harbor and Fort Christianvearn past the few palms and palm umbrellas that line the shore. This child friendly beach offers all the necessary amenities such as a bathroom, bar, and three-dollar chair rental. If looking for activities, there is beach volleyball and frequently live music on Sundays. You can get to Protestant Bay by the ferry from Christianted; it runs from 7am to 6pm ($3 round trip).

East St. Croix

Buccaneer Beach

Calm turquoise water, tall coconut trees offering up plenty of shade, and soft- white sand – this is Buccaneer Beach. Home to the Buccaneer Hotel this beach is rather busy and is accessible through the hotel grounds; if you are not a hotel guest you must pay fee to access it. The snorkeling is fair among the sea grass (many spots), which is home to conch, starfish, and other marine life. This child friendly beach offers all the necessary amenities at the hotel such as a bathroom, food and refreshments, and four-dollar chair rental. Shoys is accessible by car and taxi.

Buck Island - Reef National Monument (Turtle Beach)

As part of the U.S. National Park this spectacular soft-white sand beach with its calm waters is a must visit for snorkeling buffs! As you snorkel through the world-renowned underwater park teaming with a variety of marine life you quickly realize why Turtle Beach and the surrounding waters of Buck Island are a Virgin Islands’ treasure and a top attraction on St. Croix. Other amenities on the island are hiking trails. Buck Island – Turtle Beach is accessible by charter boat or tour.

Chenay Bay

This small, soft-white sand beach offers relaxation, as well as big fun for the entire family! Enjoy good snorkeling around the point (sea grass near the shore), windsurfing in the mild surf, or sunfish (rentals available for all these activities). If you would rather lay low, have a drink and a bite to eat at the beachside bar (rental chairs free with food purchases). This child friendly beach offers all the necessary amenities for an enjoyable day in the sun! Chenay Beach is accessible by car and taxi.

Coakley Bay

This white sand beach offers views of Buck Island and is a nice place to relax and escape the crowds. The turquoise water of Coakley Bay is calm and makes for a nice swim and good snorkeling. However, there is a fair amount of sea grass that makes its way to the shoreline and the ocean floor has rocky areas, which are home to many sea urchins. Shade can be found under the sea grape trees, but bring your own refreshments and entertainment because there are no amenities at this beach. Coakley Bay is accessible by car and taxi.

Divi Carina Bay Resort

Divi Beach is a child friendly beach with calm water, pebbly-white sand, palm trees, fair snorkeling, and all you need for a pleasurable day in the sun. This beach offers easy access to Divi Carina Bay Resort and all they have to offer: water sports, poolside bar, restaurant, a casino, and all the necessary amenities. If that’s not enough activity play some volleyball, snorkel or beach hop because Grapetree Beach is a beach stroll away. Divi Beach is accessible by car and taxi.

Grapetree Bay

A beach stroll away from Divi Beach this narrow, white sand beach is a dream for relaxing and the occasional turtle. Quiet and peaceful, due to the proximity of the private residential properties, Grapetree Beach can often feel like a private oasis. Kick back and enjoy the sound of the mild surf and warmth of the sunshine. All amenities are located at neighboring Divi Beach. Grapetree Beach is accessible by car and taxi.

Isaac Bay and Jack Bay Beaches

These exquisite soft-white sand beaches with their mild surf and good snorkeling are reserved for the more adventurous due to the two-mile hike/walk needed to get to them. However, those willing won’t be disappointed as they arrive at two of the most beautiful beaches in the Virgin Islands. There are no amenities at either of these beaches so be sure to pack food and refreshments. Jack’s and Issac’s Bay are protected by the Nature Conservatory.

Reef Bay

This pretty, white-sand beach is a great place for daylong outings. Known for its popular nearby restaurant and as a windsurfing hot spot this beach has wide appeal. If you’re not a wind surfer, no worries, other water sports equipment is available for rental at the water sports center. Enjoy fair snorkeling in the mild surf or just relax in the shade under the many sea grape trees lining the beach. This child friendly beach offers all the necessary amenities and activities for an enjoyable day in the sun! Reef Bay is accessible by car and taxi.

Shoy's Beach

Where’s paradise? Beyond a golf course, down the dirt path, and you have arrived. Shoys Bay with its soft-white sand, beautiful palm trees, mild surf, and breath-taking water is one of the most gorgeous beaches on all of St. Croix. There are no amenities on this beach so be sure to pack food and refreshments and if you are looking for activity enjoy the swimming on the beach’s east side or good snorkeling at the west end. Shoys is accessible by car and taxi and then requires a short walk.

Tamarind Reef Bay

This beach with its calm water, fair snorkeling, and close proximity to amenities offers an enjoyable day in the sun for the entire family. The far end of the bay is somewhat rocky, but the rest of the beach has plenty of sand to sink your toes into as you enjoy a terrific view of spectacular Buck Island. Tamarind Beach is accessible by car and taxi.

Frederiksted

Fort Frederik Beach (Frederiksted Beach)

This pebbly-white sand beach with its mild surf, fair snorkeling, and close proximity to town is perfect for the entire family. However, the short walk from the cruise ship pier coupled with the sight seeing and shopping appeal of Frederiksted keeps this small beach quite crowded. All activities and amenities, such as bathrooms, restaurants, and a water sports center are in town and within walking distance. Frederiksted Beach is accessible by car, taxi, bus or a short walk from Frederiksted and the cruise ship pier.

Sand Castle Beach

This beautiful long stretch of beach with its calm waters and nearby dolphins is a great place to spend an afternoon with the entire family. The glassy waters here make for great kayaking, but the snorkeling is only fair. Directly in front of the Sandcastle on the Beach Resort and Cottages by the Sea there is water sport equipment for rent (snorkeling) and a Beach Club Day Pass for Beach Side Cafe guests. Amenities such as restrooms and restaurant/bar are available through the resort. Sand Castle Beach is accessible by car and taxi.

West St. Croix beaches

Cane Bay

Cane Bay has it all! This picturesque beach with its mild surf, beautiful trees and soft-white sand is the perfect place for laying low, strolling the long shore, playing with the family, or enjoying the renowned scuba and snorkeling. Cane Bay is an excellent snorkeling and scuba site, due to “the wall” (a 1,000 feet drop a quarter mile offshore). All the necessary amenities, such as bathrooms, and restaurants are a short walk across the street. Cane Bay is accessible from the main road and taxis are available.

Davis Bay (Carambola)

This beautiful long, white-sand beach offers beautiful water, mild surf, fair snorkeling, and is home to one of the finest golf resorts in the world, Carambola. All the necessary amenities and activities to make this a child friendly beach, such as bathrooms, food/drinks, shops, and water sports are offered through the hotel. Davis Bay is accessible by car and taxi.

Hibiscus Beach

Home of the Hibiscus Beach Resort in Little Princess this rocky little beach has great snorkeling and calm waters that make for a pleasant swim. All the necessary amenities and activities to make this a child friendly beach, such as bathrooms, food/drinks, shops, and water sports are offered through the resort. Hibiscus Beach is accessible by car and taxi.

Salt River/Columbus Beach

This quiet and beautiful river bay is protected by the Nature Conservatory and has a thriving community of birds, fish, and Mangrove trees - well worth a visit. The clam clear water (grassy bottom) makes for great swimming, snorkeling, and even fishing. Wonderful kayak tours utilize this beach often, but there are no amenities so pack accordingly. Salt River Bay is accessible by car and taxi (arrange in advance).
