Charlotte Amalie Beaches
Bolongo Bay
Coconut trees, palm frond umbrellas, hammocks, and mild surf are just some of the things that make this quiet beach appealing. Home of the Bolongo Bay Resort enjoy fair snorkeling near the offshore rocks, activities from the resort’s water sports center (kayaks, water bikes, etc.), and a very good beachside restaurant and bar. This resort offers other amenities such as umbrellas, chairs, hammocks, and bathrooms! Bolongo Bay is accessible by car and taxi.
Brewers Bay Beach
Photos:
This undeveloped, picturesque beach is a favorite among locals with its scattered trees (palm and sea grape) and crystal-clear water. Although relatively uncrowded during the week this beach is hopping with family gatherings on weekends. The calm water is great for swimming, but the snorkeling is fair at best. If you get hungry the roadside food vans offer a variety of choices. There are no other amenities so pack accordingly. Brewers Bay is walking distance from the University of the Virgin Islands and is accessible by car and taxi (arrange in advance).
Lindberg Bay or Emerald Beach
Photos:
This beautiful beach’s shore is lined with palm and sea grape trees, while the clear water is extremely calm - ideal for a relaxing swim (poor snorkeling). Children will enjoy playing at the small playground or spotting the nearby iguanas. The beach is a short drive from downtown Charlotte Amalie and the airport and is home to Emerald Beach Resort and Island Beachcomber Hotel. This child friendly beach offers fun and necessary amenities at the hotels such as water sports equipment rentals (kayaks, sunfish, etc), chairs, bathrooms, food and refreshments (bar and open-air restaurant). Lindberg Bay is accessible by car and taxi.
Morningstar Bay
Look out into the beautiful turquoise water and watch passing cruise ships, bury your toes into the soft, smooth sand, and relax to the sound of the mild surf. Morningstar beach is home to Marriott's Morningstar Resort, which offers everything you need for a day in paradise. Have a bite to eat or a drink at the beachside restaurant and bar, and then work it off with a swim or fun activity from the water sports center. All the necessary amenities, such as restrooms, chairs, and umbrellas are offered through the resort. Morningstar is accessible by car and taxi.

Bluebeards Beach
Bluebeards beach with its slight breeze and calm water has become a hot spot for windsurfers and kite-boarders and is home to the Ritz Carlton Club and walking distance from the luxurious Ritz Carlton Resort and its beach, Turtle Cove. This typically quiet beach has fair snorkeling (sea grass in some areas), wonderful scenery, and is great for relaxing. This beach offers fun and necessary amenities at the Ritz Carlton Resort such as water sports equipment rentals (kayaking to windsurfing), umbrellas, chairs, bathrooms, and food and refreshments at the resort’s several restaurants and bars. Coki Bay Beach/Coki Point
Located next to Coral World Marine Park this tiny, bustling beach has plenty to do and see and is a favorite of both locals and visitors. This little beach attracts island tours, cruise ships, and local families alike; all looking to enjoy the festive atmosphere at Coki. With many novelty, trinket, and food vendors about you can spend a good part of the day eating and moseying around, but don’t forget about Coki’s beautiful, calm water. A rocky reef near the shore has excellent snorkeling (gear rentals are available). Jet ski rentals are also available opposite the beach parking lot. Coki has all the necessary amenities, such as restrooms, chairs, and umbrellas to make for a fantastic experience. Coki Point is accessible by car and taxi.
Cowpet Bay
Photos:
Crystal-clear and calm water, good snorkeling, coconut trees, great restaurants, bars, a gift shop, and a hotel water sports center make this small beach a favorite with return visitors. Despite being well-developed Cowpet Bay still offers a relaxing atmosphere while on the beach and really has something for everyone. Cowpet Bay is accessible by car and taxi.
Limetree Beach
This charming, small beach is nice for a quiet and relaxing outing. Limetree runs along a small inlet, has mild surf, and great sunsets. The snorkeling is poor and the shoreline is a bit rocky when entering the water. There is a restaurant and bar at neighboring Bluebeard’s Beach Club Time Share/Hotel property, as well as a water sports center (unpredictable hours of operation), restrooms, and chairs. Limetree Beach is accessible by car and taxi (arrange in advance).
Lindquist Beach (North-East)
Soft-white sand, calm and crystal-clear water, plenty of shade under the tree line, and good snorkeling make this one of most beautiful beaches on the island and tops on the east end. Undeveloped, this pristine beach has no amenities and must be accessed through a rough, dirt road so pack accordingly. Lindquist beach is a popular beach for residents’ picnics and parties on the weekends, but is usually uninhabited during the week. If you plan to venture out during the week keep in mind some vagrants live or hang out in the bushes around the beach. Lindquist Bay is accessible by car and taxi (arrange in advance).
Pineapple Bay (also known as Water Bay and Renaissance Beach)
This sand and pebble beach with its abundance of sea grass in the water and on the shore, poor snorkeling, and resort closing is a very quiet beach. There are several left behind hammocks and chairs, but all other amenities such as restrooms and food/refreshments are a 5-minute walk to Coki Beach or neighboring Point Pleasant Resort property (trail at right side of the bay). Water Bay is accessible by car and taxi (Coki Beach taxi stand or arrange in advance).
Sapphire Beach
Photos:
This beach is quite inviting with its white sand, gentle surf, shady sea grape trees, and numerous attractions. Live music and beachside volleyball games are common on Sundays, the Marina is within walking distance, and iguanas and ducks frequently visit the resort’s man-made pond. The snorkeling is also good along the shallow reefs and the calm water makes for a nice swim. This Sapphire Beach Resort offers all the amenities for a terrific beach going experience such as chairs, bathrooms, a gift shop, water sports center (parasailing, windsurfing, jet skis, kayaks), and a restaurant and bar! Sapphire Beach is accessible by car and taxi.
Secret Harbor Beach
Nestled in a protected bay this beach is a tropical paradise and a picture of relaxation with its hammocks, numerous palm trees, clear water, anchored raft, and pebbled shoreline. The calm water makes for a pleasant swim and there is good snorkeling along the rocky coastline (rentals at the dive shop). This beach offers amenities at the Secret Harbor Resort such as hammocks, chairs, bathrooms, and a great restaurant and beach bar! Secret Harbor is accessible by car and taxi.
Sugar Bay
This small beach with its gentle surf and sandstone shore is home to the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa and has it all! The resort offers amenities such as umbrellas, chairs, bathrooms, and a restaurant and bar! Sugar Bay is accessible by car and taxi.
Turtle Cove
This beautifully maintained beach is home to the luxurious Ritz Carlton Resort and connects to Bluebeard beach by a short, cemented, coastline path. Vessup Beach
This undeveloped shoreline is wonderful to look at with its variety of plant life, but sea grass is common in the water and on the shore, while the long sandy stretch is great for a jog or walk. The calm water is great for swimming, but the snorkeling is rather poor. This beach remains relatively empty during the week, but fills up on the weekend with residents’ parties and picnics. The water sports center rents windsurfers and other water equipment, but is not always open. There are no amenities/facilities so pack accordingly. Vessup Bay is accessible by car and taxi (arrange in advance).
North and West St. Thomas
Dorothea Bay
Photos:
Lush green hills, swaying palm trees, and crashing waves surround you with their beauty, making this bay a great place to escape crowds, relax, and enjoy nature. The beach is mostly pebble and rock, but there are sandy areas to sprawl out on. Swimming is not recommended due to the rough surf and rocky shore and the snorkeling is poor. There are no amenities/facilities at Dorothea Bay so pack accordingly. Dorothea Bay is accessible by car and taxi (arrange in advance).
Hull Bay Beach
Located on the north side of St. Thomas this small, serene beach is a favorite with locals, but relatively uncrowded and peaceful. Families come to picnic here and fishermen often anchor their small fishing boats in this bay. There are plenty of places to escape the sun, thanks to the many sea grape trees that line the shore, and the gentle surf makes for a pleasant swim. The snorkeling is good and there is a dive shop, as well a popular local restaurant/bar and restrooms, across the street. Hull Bay is accessible by car and taxi (arrange in advance).
Little Magens Bay
This sparsely populated beach is in a sandy cove (part of Magens Bay), offers calm water, and is popular among gay residents. In order to get to there begin at Magens Bay and head right (facing the water) until the beach ends; then swim or walk along the rocky shoreline to Little Magens – this is the only access to this beach. There are no amenities/facilities at Little Magens so pack accordingly.
Magens Bay
Photos:
Named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world by National Geographic and Conde Nast Traveler it is easy to see why this heart-shaped bay is St. Thomas' most popular beach. This mile stretch was donated as a public park by Arthur Fairchild to the people of the Virgin Islands and is the only St. Thomas beach with an entry fee ($3 adults/$1 resident adults, $1 cars, .25? kids). Although the snorkeling is poor the still water offers great swimming for adults and kids alike (lifeguards are on duty everyday). As you wade out from the shoreline the ocean floor gradually deepens making it perfect for children. This beach is very popular with tourist and locals and is especially crowded on Sundays and holidays, with most of the crowd gathering around the concession area – fewer people farther down the shore. This child friendly beach offers fun and necessary amenities such as water sports equipment rentals (kayaks, sailing craft, snorkeling gear), floats, a gift shop, chairs, restrooms, changing rooms, showers, lockers, and food/drink concessions. Magens Bay is accessible by car and taxi.
Mandahl Bay
Photos:
This undeveloped beach is usually quite empty, with the exception of line fisherman, due to its absence of any near facilities/amenities and rocky beach and water area. There are small tide pools to explore (home to a few tiny fish and crabs) and a nearby salt pond. Mandahl Bay is accessible by car and taxi (arrange in advance).
Stumpy Bay Beach
This beach is the perfect place to get away from the crowds due to its secluded location. This very private and sandy beach has very calm waters and is perfect for swimming. There are no amenities/facilities at Stumpy Bay Beach so pack accordingly. Stumpy Bay Beach is accessible by car and taxi (arrange in advance).
